Ivan Witenstein

Here Comes the Son, Here Comes the Knight

September 5 - October 5, 2002

Opening Reception: Thursday, October 5, 6 - 8 pm

Derek Eller Gallery is pleased to present new sculpture by Ivan Witenstein.

Drawing from a variety of sources including vernacular signage, superheroes, athletes, monuments, memorials, mini-golf, and the writings of Mark Twain, Ivan Witenstein makes  large provocative figurative sculptures cast in fiberglass and epoxy resin.

For this exhibition, Witenstein imagines the gallery floor as a river in which much of his work is floating, swimming, or sinking. His new series focuses on moments in which children and adults interact in bizarre moments of exchange and mentoring. Fusing history, pedagogy, and allegory, with a roadside sculptural vocabulary, he presents a freakish shade of Americana.

This will be his first solo exhibition.

Derek Eller Gallery is located at 526 West 25th Street, 2nd floor. Hours are Tuesday - Saturday from 11am - 6pm.  For further information or visuals, please contact the gallery at 212.206.6411 or derekeller@aol.com.
