Opening Reception: Wednesday, April 26, 6-8pm

Derek Eller Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of head studies by Jameson Green. Painterly, expressive, and intimately scaled, these works provide a window into Green’s process. They are vehicles for experimentation as well as seeds which sometimes germinate into vibrant characters within epic narrative compositions. The paintings succinctly articulate Green’s iconography and his formal technique, both of which are inspired by an array of sources including art history, caricature and comic books.

Jameson Green (b. 1992) received a BFA from School of Visual Arts in 2014 and an MFA from Hunter College in 2019. He has had recent solo exhibitions at Almine Rech, London and Sorry We're Closed, Brussels. Green's work has been featured in Some Kind of Monster Roster at Analog Diary, Beacon, NY; Fire Figure Fantasy: Selections from ICA Miami's Collection at ICA Miami; and THIS IS AMERICA at Kunstraum, Potsdam, Germany. His paintings are included in the permanent collections of Dallas Museum of Art; Pérez Art Museum, Miami; High Museum of Art, Atlanta; and ICA Miami. The gallery recently published a 96-page hardcover monograph on Green with an essay by Dan Nadel and distributed by DAP. This exhibition also coincides with the release of an edition of 36 hand-colored lithographs by Green, created through a new collaborative initiative between Independent Art Fair, Phaidon, and Artspace, which will be on view at Independent New York from May 11 – 14, 2023. Additionally, Green's work will be featured in a commissioned portfolio for the Summer 2023 issue of The Paris Review.
