North Room:

Tim Maxwell

September 8 - October 8, 2005

Opening Reception: Thursday, September 8, 6 - 8 pm

Maxwell renders icons in large scale onto sheets of paper using ballpoint pen. For this show, he has chosen a gravestone of Karl Marx and a statue of Charles Darwin as his iconic projections. He uses each as a skeleton in which to create meta-narratives. Images of emaciated Giacometti-like figures can be seen battling in Piranesian landscapes that incorporate allusions to Dutch still lifes. These microcosms created within the icon both destroy and add flesh to the original source.

This will be Tim Maxwell’s first project with the gallery.
